An Animal's Wish
The animals have no smile,
Locked in the cage with no way to escape,
Wanting nothing more than to find a way out,
But they don't know how,
Unable to find a way out.
The life in the cage is never ending,
With no way out,
But they find a way to live through it.
They fake the excitement to the people looking through the bars,
But when the lights go out,
And the emptiness sets in,
This is when the feelings come out.
The lonely cries of the lions,
The moping of the bears could break any heart,
Each animal is unable to find the truth.
They all know that the one thing they yearn for is unreachable,
And yet when the lights come on,
The fake happiness shown by the animals come out,
Doing all they can to make the people happy.
These fake acts are unnoticed though,
This changes nothing for them,
And each animal has to forget the thought of escaping,
They have to forget because they know it will never happen.
Through the abuse,
The pain of a small cage,
This changes nothing for them,
Even if it is decorated to look like their habitat,
Animals still want what they can't have.
With a fake day,
But a real night,
Living day by day with nothing new,
Soon they give up on their wish,
The want to leave is no longer an option.
