Sleepless Dream
A cold breeze wakes me from my slumber,
Causing my dreams to flutter away,
The remembrance of my dream fades from my thoughts,
There I lay holding the blanket close,
Wishing for warmth to take me over.
The only noise is from the crickets,
Chirping outside of the open window,
My body lays still in the cold sheets,
As a sleepless dream keeps me awake.
Closing my eyes I see more clearly,
The sun shining on green grass,
Wild life at every turn,
Forests filled with growing trees and animals.
Alas when I open my eyes the dream is not real,
Looking out of the window I see the dark clouds cover the night sky,
The moon unable to shine through,
Brown, dead grass cover the ground,
Each piece begging for the sunlight.
Further out I see the trees,
Some look dry and dead,
Others lucky enough to continue to live,
I know now that one day these trees will no longer be standing,
Sadness suddenly takes over my body.
The cold breeze that once woke still hangs in the air,
The feeling of the cold no longer has my attention,
Breathing in I can smell the odor that hangs in the air,
As the air enters my nose I smell everything,
Making my nose burn at the sensation I breath in.
Almost able to taste what is released into the Earth,
Theis only makes the sadness grow,
It does not grow because of the looks of life,
But because of the suffering it is causing.
Factories releasing chemicals into the air,
Killing living things,
Unable to adapt,
Making nature suffer in exchange for products.
What has the world come to?
Too worried about what's next,
Never looking at the damage that can be done,
Not thinking about the life line that is dying,
We are all dying.
One person cannot make a change,
There is not enough in the world to change,
Instead people want to watch the world die,
Watching everyone they care about suffer.
We are the reason the world is dying,
We are the reason for it all,
So to the future generations,
I am sorry for the world that we have ruined for you.
